Rain rain go away

KOALA KHRONICLES from Bird Man Media on Vimeo.

It's been a miserable start to summer. The only thing to do on a day like this is to trawl through vimeo looking for little gems like this one. Brings back fond memories of Noosa Heads.

Swanny's shred sled!

Swanny's been working on a 6'0' thruster with a nice little rounded tail. He's spent the last few days shaping and throwing down some nice graphics. Only a bit of sanding and a lick of resin to go. A nice little Christmas pressie for the summer waves!

In the shed again...

Swanny has inspired us with his new thruster to get out of the house and get some foam dust in our hair. Another exciting weekend behind the powerplain. Should have two or three new boards to go up in the coming days!

Tail, epic fail!

I took the rotten banana out for the first time a couple of weeks ago for its madien voyage. I was having alot of fun and just about to call it a day when I went I touch too hard on a cut back and snapped the fin out! Fortunatley I recovered it and I'm spending today glassing it back in.

Good new is the board feel exactly how i wanted it to. Really slow and heavy, holding it back in the curl and making it alot easier to nose ride. It's no step deck but its something different to ride on those days when your not quite sure which board to take out! Looking forward to having a go on Joe's project log when it's in the water. Summer dreams!

Nice slides for T Bird

Hey Ho Let's Go Surfing from Nathan Oldfield on Vimeo.

T Bird is still on the loose in South America and from all reports he's stinging for a nice logging session when he gets back in a couple of months. Hopefully this puts a smile on his face!

boards, boards and more boards!

The shed has been the most popular room in the house over the past few weeks. Swanny, Fishy and I have all been working on new projects for summer. There was a point last week when the smell of resin was so strong, just being in the house gave you a headache.

Swanny's chosen to make a nice little 5'6" fish. He made the board in honor of our mate Jack who is no longer with us but lives on in the memories of those who knew him. He was working frantically to get it finished before Jack's memorial paddle out last weekend. Here's a few snaps of the board and the paddle of at Scotts Head last weekend:

Some shots of Fishy's quad and my log coming in the next couple of days!

#3

The next project is well under way. The 'rotten banana' is an old board thats been floating around in the rafters collecting dust for the past 18 months. Not sure how it will ride as yet, it's undergone a number of alterations but it should be a good first board for Han who is doing her best to learn how to surf. Still a bit of work to go, more photo's to come when it's all done!

Winter Escape...

Han and I just returned from our late winter escape. Unfortunately lack of swell and onshore winds made it difficult to get any serious time on the boards. It's luck Noosa is such a beautiful place and offers some enjoyable land based activities as well... a few snaps from the road...

Two of Two

Here's a look at the mini simmons, board 2 of 2. Not sure how it rides yet, I'm saving it for when Hannah and I head north, but I'm itching to get it in the water!

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the Beach Cottage, Fishy and Swanny get started on a couple of new boards. Keep watching this space for their progress...

the Mini Simmons

I've had a couple of 'flexi' days this week to knock over a few jobs around the house and make the most of the swell. Ontop of this I've also managed to knock out a mini simmons and some fins. A bit more sanding and glass work to go but it's getting there. Hopefully will be able to Christen her in a couple of weeks when Hannah and I head north to Noosa.

Apologies to T-Bird. Dude I promised you British Racing Green with a white stripe but unfortunatley old mate at the fibreglass shop only had a couple of green tints in stock, nethier of which were much chop. If this one goes well I'll give Bobo the chop and hunt down that pigment!

Saturday slides at the hole...

A nice bit of swell came through yesterday and the rights were peeling at the hole. Thanks to the Transporter film crew who waited patiently while I snuck in my second surf for the day!

Perfect Winter Afternoon's

The last few days have been a loggers dream! While there's no shortage of company, it's still nice to come home from work and stroll down to the local for a few slides. The unseasonal warmth is also a friendly reminder that summers no too far away.

Room for lease in the Beach Cottage!

T-Bird is heading off on his adventure next week so as of Wednesday there will be spare room in the Beach Cottage. It's $110/ week, has built in wardrobes and is only a two minute walk from the waves.  If anyone is looking for accomodation in the Newcastle area drop us a line this week or send me a message on your device of choice. Keep in mind you will need to be at least stage one maddog to be considered. Oh and unfortunatley no pets allowed so if you have a pooch you'll have to ditch it with someone else! Ph

Fish Fish Done- Pete Fish well underway!

I've been slack with the blog of late but this isn't an indication of a lack of activity. Fishy has finished his board and taken her for a few spins out Merewether. Word on the street is she goes pretty nice too! T'Bird has taken to an old log with a saw in the hope to make himself  mini Simmons before he goes overseas. Progress on this slowed after the foam started to separate from the stringer. Fingers crossed we can bring her back. My fish is shaped and ready for glass. Now its just a matter of waiting till the fiberglass retailer opens his doors after renovations (great timing). Here's a few shot of Fishy's board during the wet rub, hopefully will have a few of mine to put up soon!

Saturday smiles and slop...

Joe, T-bird and I managed to get a few waves in at the C-Hole this weekend. A little sloppy, crowded and shallow but fun was had by all. Big thanks to H-Diz for her work on the camera from her perch in the back of the VW!
