New custom...

I've been a bit concerned about the 'Step Deck' and the relentless logging it has been exposed to over the past two and a half years. It's one of those boards that's so good to ride but heartbreaking to see starting deteriorate on the rocks at the Cowrie Hole. I've also jumped on a few really nice logs over the past few months that have really got me stinging for a new experience.

After a bit of research into what's on offer, chatting to a few of the old boys at the c-hole and the looking at a whole bunch different models from different shapers I decided to support local business and utilise the extensive knowledge of Jye Byrnes. I've been looking to get on a board with a pulled in nose and wide hips that might be a bit more suitable for the quick, sucky waves that peel through wide at the Hole. This is what we came up with....

So all I need now is the right conditions to roll in and get some wave time up on the lad, come on Huey!

The thrill of the chase...

I've spent the past five days cruising the mid north coast of NSW searching for surf.
It's all about the thrill of the chase! The search for that all time session that will make its way into your personal folk law.
But what to do when all Huey dishes up is a miserable 1 foot wind swell??? Chase something else...

Holy Hull!

Dragged the Shane White Kite out today for what Swanny would call a "soul session". Once I got it dialled in she was trimming like a dream!

Han managed to snap a couple off after a brisk, and I mean brisk, morning walk!

 Photos that is...

Slippery Sunday

The last couple of weeks have been producing some epic conditions for surfing in Newcastle.

Clear winter days with offshore wind and a consistent swell. You couldn't ask for much more really.

A couple of Sundays ago I got a sneaky arvo session in at the c-hole. A great way to finish the weekend and prepare myself for work!

surfing the web...

Back at work again so I the closest I'll get to the water for a few days is looking at it online. Managed to find a couple of snaps of a good mate Brenton nailing along through a critical zone at the Cowrie Hole a couple of weeks ago.

Knee High and Glassy

Noosa Heads can be hit and miss at this time of the year. Two years ago when Han and I went it was like a lake for the week. Thank god this time Huey came through with some nice knee high sliders and off shore winds. We saw a mixture of sunshine and rain but I managed to keep out of the steamer for the week as well. I'll be at work again tomorrow but I've got a feeling my mind is going to the elsewhere...

Spread Thin

I know I shouldn't complain but two weeks holiday goes so quickly...or maybe life travels by a lot faster now. All I know is I've been trying to cram in as much as I can. Week one east to west and back. Next week south to north and back. If only sleep was optional...

Ps. Thanks Huey for the last couple of days. Keep it coming for Noosa next week!

Rugging up for winter

Han's been feeling creative so I put her to the task of whipping me up a board sock for the Mini Simmons.

With a little bit of liquid inspiration and a couple of hours behind the Singer, she's managed to come up with a pretty nice bag to keep my board from copping any more dings in the back of my car.

After my quiver is covered she'll be taking orders so if you've got a few boards shivering in the back of you car or cupboard let us know and she'll be on the case (sorry bad pun) for a small but reasonable fee!

Something small and smooth

Most surfers vibe off big swell and thumping barrels. I get it but I don't go looking for it.

What gets me excited is small, clean and well formed waves that peel along as though they had been programmed by some perfect machine.

Saturday was a good day.

Just for fun...

Walking with Pete from Peter Harget on Vimeo.

The end is near

From early 2009, the property standing at 45 Frederick Street, Merewether NSW has been home to the dixonbeachcottage crew. The lineup went through many changes over those 5 years but the vibe within the walls always remained chilled and positive.

Now the construction signs are up. Fishy and Swanny have moved on and the beach cottage stands vacant on the corner awaiting demolition.

All that will be left will be the boards, stories, memories and photographs of what was a great time all our lives.

I guess it's just another reminder everything ends sooner or later.
